The Employment Equity Amendment Act came into affect last year 1 August 2014. * Do you know that it is now mandatory for both large and small companies to submit their EE returns every year? * Do you know that fines have been increased by 200% to R1 500 000 for first time offences? * Do you know that for certain sections of non-compliance the Inspector can apply to the Labour Court for fines without having to issue you with a compliance order? * Are you aware of the new provision of ‘Equal pay for work of Equal work? Companies who are deemed designated employers in terms of the EE Act: a) Staff compliment is over 50 or b) Your turnover is equal to or greater than your industry norm (Please see Schedule 4 of the EE Act as there has been changes to the thresholds); Must submit their Equity returns this year by 1 October 2015 for manual submissions, and until 15 January 2016 for online submissions. Moreover, companies are unaware of all the requirements of the Act, and most would fail the substantive EE Checklist conducted by Labour Inspectors. Do not delay until an Inspector comes to visit, by then the financial implications of not starting sooner will be devastating to your business.
